Mission
Statement
Preamble
The student body of the College of Business and Economics
comes from the urban communities of greater Los Angeles and
from many nations. It is exceptionally diverse in race, ethnicity,
national origin, age, linguistic proficiency, religious belief,
and cultural background. Its composition gives the College
a singular advantage because businesses worldwide seek employees
who understand peers and customers in culturally varied contexts.
The atmosphere of the College promotes the values and insights
needed to thrive in the twenty-first century workforce.
Mission
Our central mission is to be the educational gateway through
which students of diverse backgrounds emerge as graduates
having the abilities and sensitivities needed to be highly
competitive in local, regional, and global markets.
This mission is accomplished by faculty who create and transmit
knowledge in an intellectual climate that promotes free expression
of ideas and values differences. We give students the opportunity
to reflect on business as a global, social, and economic institution;
to enhance basic skills; to master core disciplines; to learn
professional practices; and to develop technological proficiencies.
We reinforce and promote competency, leadership ability, and
integrity.
In this endeavor the faculty is supported by alumni, administrators,
staff, and friends in the business community. All work together,
applying the criterion that every action should promote excellence
and continuous improvement in the central mission of being
an educational gateway to an elevated and enriched life.
